Bob Scully Award – 2003 Physician Assistant of
the Year
On August
8, 2003, during the their Summer Symposium in St. Petersburg, Florida, The
Florida Academy of Physician Assistants presented Phil Nix with the 2003
Physician Assistant of the Year Award. The purpose of the award is to honor
a physician assistant in Florida who has demonstrated exemplary service to the
PA profession, the community, and has furthered the image of PAs.
Phil was
recognized for his achievements. He has served two terms as president of the
Society of Emergency Physician Assistants and has been a founding member of that
organization since 1992. He has been actively involved as a volunteer PA in the
National Disaster Medical System serving on the South Florida Regional Disaster
Medical Assistance Team when it was started in 1995.
A 1983
graduate of the St. Louis University PA Program, Phil has mentored several PA
students. He completed his Masters in Physician Assistant Studies with
specialization in emergency medicine in 2000 from the University of Nebraska.
Phil
currently practices in the emergency department at Baptist Hospital of Miami. He
serves on the hospital’s Allied Health Credentialing and Review Committee and
the Medical Staff Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Committee. He is
employed by South Florida Emergency Physicians.
